Helen Demetriou is a full time Visual Arts student.
Uni has given her the opportunity to explore and learn new things with her work, and she is always keen to adapt her skills in different ways and outlets.
Through her work, Helen has explored themes around home, everyday life, identity, and memory - with particular investment in visual narrative.
She works primarily on thick watercolour paper with grey lead, gouache, ink, and acrylic paint.
With light sketches and defining black ink, she creates dreamlike washes in a soft and warm colour pallet.
Most recently, Helen has taken to drawing people wearing stripy socks. Her style is deeply influenced by children's illustrative literature and films, the traditional methods and research from her studies, as well as her own experiences, observational sketches and photographs.
When she's not hiding in the studios at uni - she works as a personal care worker at a local nursing home, and is very inspired by the lives, stories, and memories of people she cares for.
