Creative Sessions Week 1 - Plants

Hello and welcome back to the Geelong Illustrators blog! Last week I ran my very first class ever, our first of the Geelong Illustrators Creative Sessions, focusing on the theme of plants and flowers.

I was a bit nervous, worried I would muck it all up or that it wouldn't be fun, but it turns out I had nothing to worry about!

I had one lovely attendee, Melissa, who was absolutely fantastic and willing to dive in to all the creative exercises I had planned.

It was great for her as it turned into a one on one session, and we had a good chat (and lots of fun) while we were drawing.

Exercises we covered were:

Parallel lines (for a warm up)

Mr Squiggle

Exquisite corpse (my favourite!)

Non dominant drawing

Drawing with both hands

and Doodling

Even though I knew what we were in for, I still got a lot out of it!

I don't know about you, but whenever I go to draw, I usually approach it in the same way. It was refreshing to not have to worry about exactly what I was drawing, to just have fun with it, and see where the drawings went.

Melissa had a great time because she didn't know what to expect, and I'm really proud of her for jumping back in to drawing and into the unknown!

After almost 90 minutes of drawing and sketching (the time absolutely flew by!) we finished off the session with a stretch of our hands and arms. You've got to take care of your most important tools. ;-)

The one negative of the day, is we were having so much fun, I forgot to take more photos!

Our second class, with a new mystery theme and a different range of exercises, is this Saturday 10:30 am at Kaisercraft Geelong.

For more information on our Creative Sessions head here or email illustrators@geelongcreatives.com.au I hope to see you there, otherwise stay tuned for the re-cap of classes next week!
